Birding Tours of the Bruce Peninsula’s Fishing Islands

We are pleased to announce that we are going to the birds! Literally!  Bruce Peninsula Boat Tours will offer birding tours as part of our regular tour schedule in 2018 in the Fishing Islands of Lake Huron. The new schedule applies to the months of May and June.

We are delighted to offer four sessions of “Birding the Islands by Boat with Doug Pedwell” in 2018. These 1.5 hour tours are scheduled for Fridays and Saturdays. Since retiring from teaching, Doug has been able to indulge his lifelong passions of of birding and photography. He can often be found scanning the shoreline of Lake Huron and the Fishing Islands in search of the birds that pass through this beautiful part of the Bruce Peninsula and nest here in the spring.  A member of the Bruce Birding Club, the Saugeen Shores Camera Club and a past-president of the Friends of MacGregor Point Park and the Huron Fringe Birding Festival, you will enjoy having Doug share his skill and local knowledge aboard our vessel.

As well, our new “Birding By Boat” tour will depart 3X weekly at 8:30 a.m. for a 1.5 hour tour in May and June, and is designed to provide an opportunity for birders with skill and equipment to get out around the islands. We provide the boat, you bring your birding expertise. Let your binoculars lead you, and we will safely facilitate your birding by boat experience through the islands. (Boat Capacity 7-12 passengers.)

Our tours include a visit to a great blue heron rookery, that is a very busy spot in May and June. (We remain on the boat to observe.) There are usually also a number of white egrets, gulls and cormorants on this island.
