A Lovely Surprise on the Sauble River!
While researching Sauble Beach family history this past summer, we followed up on some ‘hunches’ and found a long lost relative, Ron Yager, still returning to a family cottage on what was Donna’s great-grandfather’s land along the Sauble River. W.G. Simmie was the great-grandfather of Ron and Donna. We subsequently spent some lovely time pouring over old family pictures and sharing family stories. Of course, we also enjoyed a fish dinner with cousin Ron Yager and his wife Delavina of Independence, Missouri and other family members.
We also connected with Bimodashka Pucan, curator of “The Voices of Chief’s Point“, whose research into the life of Robert Thompson and Chief’s Point residents included mention of our great-grandfather’s activities along the Sauble River in the traditional territory of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. Don’t miss the exhibit presently at the Bruce County Museum.
Our venture into Sauble, brought one of our relatives back to us, and more stories of the life of another. It doesn’t get any better than that!
